One of permaculture's great design ideas, Hugelkulture helps you use all your yard waste to form a self-composting raised bed garden! Basically, you put down some logs, make a border. Then you put in some big branches, covered by smaller branches, covered by twig and leaf duff, followed by a couple inches of topsoil. You plant directly into your brand new raised bed, and as the branches decompose they provide nutrients and release heat in the soil that encourages your plants to flourish! Read all about it , the picture gallery is especially helpful!
